Wilson, Alfred Clifton, Jr.

Alfred Clifton Wilson, Jr., age 79, of Bishopville, Maryland, formerly of Newark, Delaware, passed away peacefully at home on October 23, 2026.

Alfred attended Newark High School for three years before moving to and graduating as part of the first class from Christiana High School in 1964. He went on to have a decades-long career as a pipefitter and later, was elected business manager of Plumbers and Pipefitters Local Union 74, formerly Pipefitters Local Union 80.

He was a long-time member of Hiram Masonic Lodge 25, Grand Lodge of Delaware; the Valley of Wilmington Scottish Rite; and the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipe-Fitting Industry of the United States and Canada.

As a young man, Alfred found joy in his car, playing guitar, and leading his band. Throughout his life, he was happiest near the water, whether swimming in his pool or spending time boating and fishing on the Chesapeake and Delaware Bays and the Atlantic Ocean. Above all, Alfred treasured time with family and friends, especially gathering over bushels of crabs and celebrating holidays together. His devotion to those he loved was perhaps most evident in the care and support he lovingly provided to Joyce.

Alfred was predeceased by his parents, Elizabeth Golden and Alfred Clifton Wilson, Sr. He is survived by his beloved wife 0f 55 years, Joyce (Potts); his sisters, Karen (Bonner) Gilbert and Michele (Gregg) Wilson; his children, Bret (Melinda) Wilson, Chad (LeAnne) Wilson, and Erin (Nate) Passwaters; his grandchildren, Brandon, Heidi (Taylor), Laura, Bridget, Claire, and Reid; and two great-grandchildren.

A memorial service for Alfred will be held on Monday, November 2, 2026, at noon at McCrery & Harra Funeral Home, 3710 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE 19808. A Masonic service will also be held as part of the memorial service. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org) or the American Diabetes Association (www.diabetes.org).
