Allene D. Hopman, age 98, passed peacefully at home with her husband by her side on October 23, 2026.
Allene was born to the late Richard and Edith Donovan in Norristown, Pennsylvania. She earned her Master’s Degree from West Chester University, and taught second grade at P.S. du Pont and Lombardy Elementary. Allene had a passion for music and served as the long-time music director for Emmanuel Orthodox Presbyterian. Allene and her husband, Herman, travelled the world together.
Allene is survived by her husband of 60 years, Herman, as well as a big extended family.
Visitation will take place Friday, October 30 at 10:30 am at the McCrery & Harra Funeral Home, 3924 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE 19803 with funeral service at 11 am. Interment will follow at Lombardy Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made in Allene’s name to Emmanuel Orthodox Presbyterian Church or the EOPC Education Fund, both at 1006 Wilson Rd., Wilmington, DE 19803.
