Raymond Porter, 88, peacefully went home to heaven, on Sunday, August 30, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on October 8, 1937 the fifth child of ten to Willis and Florence Porter in Coatesville, PA. Following high school, he joined the U.S. Air Force and began his 20-year career. He served in Maryland, Texas, Alaska, Georgia, California, Virginia and Thailand.
In March of 1962, he married his beloved wife of 64 years, Marlene Galloway. The family returned to Delaware following his USAF retirement in 1976. Ray worked at Hercules, Holloway Bros. Tools, and Brandywine Chrysler Jeep Dealership before finally retiring for the last time. Spending time with his family, playing golf, bowling, sitting at his neighborhood pool, and picking up pizza for the Friday Night Happy Hour Crew were all things he enjoyed doing in his retirement years. He was a member of White Clay Creek Presbyterian Church for fifty years.
He is survived by his wife Marlene, daughter Polly, son Bradley (Jennifer), grandsons Bryan (Sarah) and Braden (Haylie) and five great-grandchildren, two brothers Ronald (Karen) and Richard (Brenda) and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, September 3 at White Clay Creek Presbyterian Church with visitation beginning at 1:00 and the service to follow at 2:00. Interment in the churchyard will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to White Clay Creek Presbyterian Church or to Accent Hospice.
