Jane B. Barker (nee Hughes), age 99, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on August 1, 2026 surrounded by her loving family.
Born on May 19, 1927 in Wilmington, she graduated from Alexis I. DuPont High School in 1945 and married Charles N. “Bus” Barker in 1952. As newlyweds they built a home together in Talleyville, where she lived for her remaining 74 years.
She devoted her life to her family, friends, and faith, leaving many warm family memories of her apple pies and pancakes, as well as her patience, care and feeding of a steady stream of pets brought home by her husband and children over the years, including dogs, cats, turtles, birds, and others too numerous to list. She was a devoted member of Mt Lebanon UMC and a faithful fan of the Philadelphia Phillies.
She is survived by sons Charles (Nina), Harry (Patti), son-in-law Ralph Mueller, grandsons Ben (Jessica), Tom (Chrissy), Tim (Glori), Matt, Joe (Maddie), and Nick, great-grandchildren Lily and Bennett, special friends who were an important part of her life - Lisa Schwind and Judy Bagdon (niece), as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by husband Bus, daughter Becky, and grandson Daniel.
The funeral service will be private.
