Surrounded by loved ones, Dee Jayne McCormick, of Wilmington, Delaware died of cancer on July 28, 2026. She was 60 years old.
Dee McCormick, a 1983 graduate of Concord High School in Wilmington, Delaware, was known for her generous spirit, infectious humor, and unmistakable sparkle.
Throughout her career, Dee wore many hats. For the last six-plus years, she worked behind the deli counter at Stoltzfus PA Dutch Foods in the New Castle Farmers Market. Customers from throughout the greater Wilmington area came to know and appreciate her not only for her excellent customer service, but also for the genuine relationships she built. Many recognized Dee from her time at the market—and, of course, for her signature sparkle.
Volunteering was another defining part of Dee’s life. Over the years, she received numerous awards and accolades for her service to the community. Whether she was facilitating depression support groups, volunteering at the local animal shelter, serving for many years with the Women’s Auxiliary of the Elsmere Fire Company, or simply helping a friend in need, Dee found purpose and fulfillment in caring for others.
No matter how someone met Dee, one thing was impossible to miss: her love of sparkle and shine. Her funky glasses, glittering jewelry, colorful scarves, and vibrant clothing often caught people’s attention. But while the sparkle started the conversation, it was Dee’s humor, warmth, and kindness that turned acquaintances into lifelong friends.
Dee was preceded in death by her father, Donald J. McCormick, and her best friend of 30 years, David W. Skyles.
She is survived by her mother, Donna J. McCormick of Wilmington; her sister, Debbie Lee of Wilmington; her brother, David (Ann) McCormick of Corner Ketch; her nephews Adam and Simon Lee and her niece Kate Lee, children of Debbie; and her nephews Myles, Henry, and Harlan McCormick, children of David.
A visitation will be held Sunday, August 23, 2026, from 1-2 at McCrery & Harra Funeral Home, 3710 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE 19808 followed by a service in celebration of Dee’s life at 2 PM.
Burial will be private.
In keeping with Dee’s wishes, she asked that flowers be left where they grow. Instead, those wishing to honor her memory are encouraged to donate to their local animal shelter or food bank—a tribute she would have appreciated far more than any bouquet.
