Schock, Albert

Albert was born in 1936 in Odessa, Ukraine. In 1944, at the height of the Russian counteroffensive against German forces, his family was forced to flee Odessa and ultimately settled in a small German village close to Dachau. There, at the age of 14, he became an apprentice to the local cabinetmaker learning the trade that would shape his life.

In 1955, the family emigrated to the United States, where for the next 18 years he worked in various trades before becoming co-owner of Schock Brothers, Inc. and was finally able to devote full time to woodworking and cabinet making. Albert was the consummate woodworker, personally involving himself in every project from courtrooms for the State of Delaware, major buildings such as Haslett Armory, Schwarts Theater, Hagley Museum Library, Mitchell Hall, Perkins Student Center and numerous other buildings at the University of Delaware, corporate offices for DuPont and Astra Zeneca, restaurants for Specialty Restaurants out of California, various banks and numerous private homes. Albert was recognized in the trade for his craftsmanship and adherence to high standards.

Albert is survived by Gregory Schock (Hope Steen-Schock); Mark Schock (Sandy Schock) and their children.

In his discharge papers, his commanding officer wrote: “As a platoon leader, I would rate you the best soldier I have ever had under my command.”

A graveside service will be held at 2:00pm on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE 19701
