On Monday, April 20th, 2026, Joan Ann Matthews, age 85, of Wilmington, DE following a tumultuous illness, left her body behind, and entered the loving hands of our Lord to become an eternal angel.
“Joanie” was born and raised in Wilmington, DE. She was a loving and devoted daughter, wife, mother, mom-mom, sister, and child of God.
Joanie enjoyed gardening, dancing, cooking, attending church, and most of all, spending time with her loved ones.
She was predeceased by her parents, Walter and Catherine Bojarski of Wilmington, her husband of 45 years, David C Matthews, Sr, and her sisters, Lori Pepeta and Claire Pratzner. She is survived by her sister Josephine Mauro, sister Linda Walters (Joe), sister Elaine Matthews, son David C Matthews, Jr, daughter Dana M. Vascik (Joe Palomo), son Craig D Matthews, grandson Cameron D Matthews, granddaughter Paige Vascik, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Joan was a wise and beautiful soul, was loved and adored by all who knew her, and will be dearly missed.
A viewing will be held on Monday April 27, at McCrery & Harra Funeral Home, 3710 Kirkwood Hwy, Wilmington, DE 19808 from 10am -11am, with funeral service to follow at 11am. Entombment will be at All Saints Cemetery, Wilmington.
