Alena Jonas of Wilmington, Delaware passed away peacefully on February 27, 2026, at the age of 92.
Alena was born in Prague, Czechoslovakia on November 6, 1933. She and her family emigrated to the United States in 1969, where she lived in Wilmington for the rest of her life, spending the last 12 years at the Methodist Country House in Greenville where she was well-cared for while battling dementia.
Our Mom, ‘Babi’ as all the kids called her, liked taking care of her family, travelling, entertaining and most of all she loved her cats! She and her husband Otakar were avid hikers, skiers and campers, participating in many trips with the Wilmington Trail Club. They also enjoyed frequent trips to the Czech Republic to visit and travel with their family and childhood friends.
She is survived by her three daughters Marketa Jonas-Hagy, Alena Jonas, and Lucy Jonas and her granddaughter Katelin Stewart.
Services and a funeral will take place in Prague, Czech Republic, where Alena will be buried next to her husband in the Prague National Cemetery, in the country that she loved.
