Walter J. “Jim” Brown, Jr. passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 18, 2026. He spent the final days of his life on earth surrounded by his loving family.
He was born and raised in Marshallton, DE as the loving son of the late Walter J. Brown Sr. and Mildred Brown (Fenimore).
Jim married the love of his life, Jeannette, in 1959, and they truly spent the rest of their lives together as Jeanette precedes Jim in death by only a few months.
For most of his life, he was employed as a lab technician for Hercules Industries. He spent some of his retired years as a dedicated staff member at Gracelawn Memorial Park. He additionally dedicated 4 years as a Private in the U.S. Army reserves earning a prestigious award for second top sharpshooter.
Jim loved playing card games, especially with his grandchildren. He and his wife, Jeannette, spent the winters as “snowbirds” in Punta Gorda, Florida. Jim enjoyed meeting new people, being out on his boat with family and friends, and a good bourbon and ginger.
Jim is preceded in death by his loving wife of 66 years, Jeannette A. Brown, his sister, Nancy Mortimer, his mother, Mildred Evelyn Brown (Fenimore) and his father, Walter J. Brown Sr.
He is survived by his children, Vicki Pruitt (Robert), Walter J. Brown III, and Linda Crouse (Dean); his 9 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild with another one on the way; in addition to many more beloved family members and friends.
A visitation will be held Thursday, January 29, 2026 beginning at 9:30a.m. followed by services at 10:30a.m. both held at McCrery and Harra Funeral Home: 3710 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE 19808. The Interment will immediately follow at Gracelawn Memorial Park: 2220 N. DuPont Highway, New Castle, DE 19720.
