Cantera, Betty J.

Betty June Fulmer Cantera age 95, and a lifelong Delaware resident died peacefully at home December 5, 2025, with family beside her. Betty was born in Wilmington, the eldest daughter of Kathryne (Bailey Bowman) and Horace Fulmer.

Betty was a vibrant, bright woman with a fierce love of family. As many could attest, getting in her way was never a good move. She was not afraid to try new things, including preparing weird recipes to feed her young kids. Whether that went over well or not is debatable. Picky children aside, she was quite an accomplished cook who later published a cookbook.

Betty and her beloved late husband of 59 years, Carl, traveled the world with Maui being one of their favorite places. A true sun worshipper, she loved the outdoor lifestyle. She was an accomplished gardener who skillfully drove a tractor to maintain several acres on the Bohemia River. With that tractor, she wasn’t afraid to behead any snake that dared get in her path. She was as elegant and charming as she was headstrong and determined. She was a woman of many talents and frequently the life of a party. She and Carl hosted many, many over the years, from New Year’s Eve parties to garden parties to Ferrari enthusiasts’ car meets and more. They happily lived and enjoyed their life together to the fullest!

She had an eye for design and art which was evident in the beautiful family homes she crafted through the years. She also established a design business. Her favorite home was in north Bethany Beach, where she spent much of her time. She loved the ocean view. Betty lived a full life, rich in love, family, friendships, and adventures.

Betty will be deeply missed by her four children, Richard D. Cantera, (Maureen), Carolyn Cantera Harlin, (Ray d. 2022), Steven C. Cantera (Sherri), and Jill A. Cantera (Rob Moores); six grandchildren, Lynn Harlin Shelton, (Jason), Amy Cantera, RJ Moores and Max Moores (Shannon), Michele Harra (Rob), Meredith Russell (Kyle) and eight great grandchildren, Carolina and Merritt Kelley, Evie Shelton, Steven and Mia Cantera, Brinton and Landyn Harra, Tristan Russell; and her companion Earl Fisk of California.

Visitation for Friends and family will be Monday December 15, between 11am and 1pm at the McCrery & Harra Funeral Home 3924 Concord Pike, Talleyville, located on Route 202 south of Silverside Rd. Followed by a private burial at Silverbrook Cemetery, next to her husband, Carl.
