Jeffrey Allen Maxfield, age 75, of Garnet Valley, Pennsylvania, formerly of Jacksonville, Florida, passed away surrounded by his loving family on December 2, 2025 after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease and cancer.
Jeff was born in Burlington, Wisconsin, and he shared fond memories of escapades growing up in Wisconsin with his brother and cousins for the rest of his life. He moved to St. Petersburg, FL as a teenager and graduated from Dixie Hollins High School in 1968. He served in the United States Navy for 10 years from 1970 - 1980, earning the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, and two Good Conduct Medals for his service. Through his service in the Navy he met his loving wife, Carol, who also served, and together they saw the world, even living in Sardinia, Italy for a time where Jeff was stationed early in their marriage. Following his military service, Jeff and Carol settled in Jacksonville, Florida, where he dedicated 31 years to his career at the United States Postal Service, and they raised their daughter, Suzanne.
Jeff loved to make other people laugh, and he was known to any who met him to be a friend. But while he always added levity, his caring and compassionate nature, vulnerability in always sharing his heart, and insight in recognizing others’ struggles and how they made a positive impact on the world were his true superpowers. He thought of others before himself, and intentionally went out of his way to brighten others’ days and acknowledge people’s challenges and contributions, and sincerely convey his appreciation, pride, and love to ensure others knew they mattered. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him, especially his family.
Jeff was a member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Jacksonville, and enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, playing scrabble, bowling, watching the Andy Griffith Show and Matlock, going out to breakfast, and of course, bringing joy to other people.
He is predeceased by his mother, Katherine “Pat” Maxfield, father, Eugene Maxfield, and brother, Michael Maxfield.
Survivors include wife of 48 years, Carol Maxfield, daughter, Suzanne Little, son-in-law, Matthew Little, sister, Sharon Loveday, sister-in-law, Janet Crawford, and several in-laws, nieces, and nephews.
A memorial service for Jeff will be held at McCrery and Harra’s Concord Pike location (3924 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE 19803) on December 18th, at 12pm, friends and family may begin calling at 11am. A committal service will follow at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, if you would like to honor Jeff’s memory, the family suggests memorial donations to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
May Jeff’s legacy of kindness, love, and laughter continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him.
