Evans, Ann H.

Ann H. Evans, (Great Aunt), 92, of Wilmington, DE, lovingly known as “Tete Ann”, passed away on Monday, August 25, 2025, at Christiana Hospital in Wilmington. She was 92. Ann was born in Wilkes-Barre, PA, where she grew up with her older brother George. The duo could be found along the shore of Wildwood, bodysurfing every wave in sight – a skill they passed down to George’s children. Ann described herself as the “apple of her father’s eye” and, ironically, her cheeks turned red anytime she ate one.

In the spring of 1954, she graduated in the top 10% of her class at Misericordia College. Ann earned the Summa Cum Laude distinction along with membership into the Kappa Gamma Pi Honor Society, completing her Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and Mathematics.

Ever the trailblazer, Ann accepted a position with the Yerkes Research Laboratory upon graduating. During her tenure, she would become the first woman in the history of the Patents and Regulatory Affairs department of duPont – a testament to her technical acumen and laudable work ethic. Although the only woman among the group of men, Ann said she quickly became part of the “tribe”.

Brilliant, perceptive, with a wit that never dulled with age, Ann kept her mind sharp as an avid puzzler. Active even as a nonagenarian, Ann got her steps in at the Christiana Mall every day, and she never missed a Sunday mass.

She was predeceased by her brother George L. Evans, Jr. Ph. D in 2008. Tete Ann is survived by her niece Paula (and Lawerence) Law and her two nephews, Gregory (and Claudia) Evans and Christopher (and Amy) Evans. She also leaves four grandnieces, Samantha, Tara, Kelsey and Madison, along with three grandnephews Steven, Maxwell, and Benjamin.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. John The Beloved Catholic Church in Wilmington, DE where Ann was an active member for over 50 years. A service will be held on Friday August 29, at 2pm at the McCrery and Harra Funeral Home, 3710 Kirkwood Highway Wilmington. Friends are welcome at 1:30. Burial will be in All Saints Cemetery.
