Meredith, Helen

Helen Clanton Meredith, 94, of Kennett Square, PA, passed away at home in Kendal at Longwood Retirement Community on August 23, 2025. Helen was born in Atlanta, GA to the late Darwin and Mildred Clanton. She was a graduate of Druid Hills High School and Wesleyan College in Macon, GA with a major in English literature.

Helen was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. She worked as a tour guide at Hagley Museum for over 25 years. Helen loved history, literature and music. This was reflected in her love of traveling to beautiful places, whether a National Park or a European Cathedral.

Helen was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Duke Cole Meredith, Jr., and later, her second husband, Sydney Winn Fleming, in 2024. She is survived by her sister, Celeste Hutchinson; her daughter, Millie Hunter (Frank); her son, Darwin Meredith (Lilia); her three grandchildren, James Hunter (Lizzie), Meredith McCarter (Craig) and Conan Meredith; her three great-grandchildren, Josephine and Elizabeth McCarter and Edward Hunter.

Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of Helen’s life at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 25th at Kendal at Longwood. Burial will be at Westview Cemetery in Atlanta, GA. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Grace United Methodist Church, 900 Washington St., Wilmington, DE 19801.
