Ryan P. McGinty, age 44, of Newark, Delaware, passed away on August 12, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of creativity, generosity, and boundless ingenuity. A devoted husband, gifted sound engineer, and lifelong lover of the outdoors, Ryan will be remembered for his bold spirit, infectious humor, and legendary knack for fixing just about anything.
A proud Penn State graduate and Pittsburgher at heart, Ryan found his calling in theatre where he worked behind the scenes as a sound engineer and designer, shaping the magic that brought performances to life. With an ear for perfection and a heart for collaboration, he was a trusted colleague and a quiet force in countless productions over the years.
To those who knew him best, Ryan was the ultimate MacGyver, a master of improvisation and repair. From rebuilding engines from scratch to creating solutions with nothing but gaff tape, a few wires, and sheer determination – he could breathe life back into almost anything. Whether it was a failing soundboard mid-show or a leaky tent in the rain, Ryan always found a way.
Ryan also found peace in nature. He and his beloved wife Amanda shared a love for camping, hiking, and casting lines into quiet lakes. These trips were more than a pastime – it was how he reconnected with the world and those he loved most.
Ryan is survived by his wife Amanda, his partner in every adventure. He also leaves behind his parents, his “fr-amily,” and a wide circle of friends, colleagues, and fellow artists who will miss his steady hand and generous spirit.
A celebration of Ryan’s life will be held with close family and friends. Date and details to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Cancer Institute at the NIH or the National Park Foundation, two causes close to Ryan’s heart.
Ryan’s absence will echo in quiet backstage corners, in the rustle of leaves on a trail, and in every perfectly timed sound cue. He was one of a kind and will be missed beyond measure.
